Luis and his family live in a house in

the city. They have a small yard. There is

no place to play ball or swing or slide.

So Luis’s family and their neighbors built

a park. Here’s how.

First, they picked a spot. Near Luis’s

house was a big, empty lot with concrete

and weeds. It would be perfect! Next, the

neighbors planned the park. Would it have

a ball field and a playground? Would it

have picnic tables?

Next, the neighbors went to their city

leaders. They talked about their plan. The

leaders voted yes. They gave them some

money. The neighbors raised money too.

They had a block party and sold food.

The neighbors built the park. Mr. Nuñez

planted grass. Mr. Johnson built tables.
